Castle Crashers is a cutesy, RPG game, heavily focusing on co-op. Of course you don’t have to play with other people but it’s more fun playing with three other people, all of which can either be offline, online or a mix of both!
You are a knight on an epic quest to save four princess from evil bosses, it’s a simple story but the humour really drives this game, starting with not ever being able to see the mysterious orange princess’ face!
You start off the game with a choice of four characters, a red guy that does lightning magic, orange guy that does fire magic, green guy does acid magic and blue guy does ice magic. There are many different characters to choose from later on, each one differs only by their magic powers and aesthetic looks.
You must level up each character individually and you gain experience by hitting enemies. Yes, it’s an odd system but every hit you make is a point of experience effectively. This can mean though, that the faster hitter eats all the experience so expect level differences between characters focusing on different fighting style. When you level up you get points to put into four categories, Strength, Magic, Defence and agility. Strength is best for characters you wish to focus on melee attacks, magic is for wannabe mages and agility is best for archers, or people who just wanna run really, really fast!
Everything about this game is fantastic, the soundtrack is funky, everything is cute and adorable, and the humour is fantastic. Let me put it this way, I never though seeing an owl poop itself to death would be funny until this game.
The only thing that lets it down, is the online mode. Some days it will work fine, other days it doesn’t want to work at all. Playing a game with randoms is easy but trying to play a game with your friends isn’t. But, for £11.99, you really do get a huge game here that is easy to come back to again and again.
Available on the Playstation Network or Xbox Live.
